When FasTracKids conducts training for new franchisees and reiterates the importance of the programs, we share insights from The Global Achievement Gap book. Author and education expert, Tony Wagner, conducted interviews with business leaders asking them what skills are necessary when hiring young employees today.

He thought he was going to get answers such as math, science, computer skills, etc. Instead, he consistently heard that the seven skills necessary to survive in the 21st century are: critical thinking and problem solving; collaboration across networks; agility and adaptability; initiative and entrepreneurialism; effective oral and written communication; accessing and analyzing information; and developing curiosity and imagination.

Wagner then went on to observe what was being taught in highly regarded public schools and discovered that there was a profound disconnect. What he learned was that high schools were doing an excellent job of preparing students to take multiple choice tests in passive learning environments, with uninspired lesson plans that focus on test preparation and reward memorization.

This book is recommended not only for its important message, but also for great material to orchestrate provocative conversations with parents. FasTracKids is preparing children with these important survival skills through the development of our 5 C’s.
